My name is Katie Meeks. I am a 2008 graduate of Grundy County High School and a 2012 graduate of Tennessee Tech University where I obtained my bachelors degree in nursing. I am a BSN RN. I worked on a med surg floor for 1.5 years and then transferred to labor and delivery where I worked for 1.5 years before I found teaching.

I am married to my husband, Justin, and we have 3 children: Jade, Jace, and Jaia. My family is the main factor for my transition from floor nursing into teaching. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching and have learned more than I ever knew I would. My son, Jace, has autism and is nonverbal. He has truly taught me what life is all about, and he has also taught me how to not sweat the small stuff. I love using this philosophy in the classroom because if you work hard enough, anything is possible. So don’t sweat the little things in life.

I have a very chill personality, but I am a firm believer in pushing my students to be the best they can be. I know their abilities, and I will always push them to do better and be better. I am very passionate about my field, and I expect things to be done right. We don’t do things half way in my class. I do everything out of love. I expect my children’s teachers to care, love, and protect my children while they are at school. I will ensure to do the same for my students while they are in my classroom.

The Program

  • My classroom/lab environment looks different from week to week.
  • We focus hard on the material with discussion, lecture and then we put it into action with hands on and projects.
  • I am a firm believer that you have to know how to do it before you can.
  • My goal is to teach students overall basic skills in the beginner classes that will carry into many healthcare careers. Things such as taking vital signs and what they mean, basic CPR, infection control skills, and how to collect patient information.
  • In my advanced classes, I try to really hone in on more advanced skills that pertain to the nursing field and for CNAs and medical assistants.
  • Students can receive an industry certification for the Clinical Certified Medical Assistant class.
  • Potential career paths they can obtain knowledge about through my classes are anything in the nursing field, careers in the dental field, medical assistants, CNAs, physical therapy field, etc.
